Ricky Ponting keen on returning to IPL after parting ways with DC, hints at new ‘opportunities’

Ricky Ponting's statement comes days after he parted ways with the Delhi Capitals after a fairly long association with the team

Former Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting has expressed his desire to return to the coaching role in the IPL. The ex-Australian skipper’s statement comes days after he parted ways with the franchise after a fairly long association with the team. Punter hinted at some ‘new opportunities’ in the horizon, noting that there could be developments next few weeks.

Ricky Ponting to return to IPL?

So it is what it is, we’ve decided to part ways and we decided to move on but that doesn’t mean that I won’t be coaching again. I’m very keen to get back involved in the IPL. There might be a few opportunities coming up and we’ll see what happens over the next few weeks,” Ponting told Cricbuzz.

Ponting’s failure forces DC to part ways

Ponting never managed to get the team to an IPL title despite being the team for seven seasons. News of Ponting’s exit had been making waves after Ganguly, DC’s Director of Cricket, pointed towards a lack of results in the past three IPL seasons, where the team failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The remaining DC coaching team includes director of cricket Sourav Ganguly, assistant coach Pravin Amre, bowling coach James Hopes, and fielding coach Biju George.
