The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to announce Aleem Dar as a member of the national selection committee. Aleem Dar is set to retire officially from his umpiring duties at the conclusion of Pakistan’s 2024-25 domestic season. Now the question arises, how can Aleem Dar join the national selection committee when he is likely to officiate the tri-series against South Africa and New Zealand in 2025 followed by PSL 2025?
Aleem Dar left the ICC’s Elite Panel of umpires back in early 2023. But his domestic circuit continues. The PCB is yet to make a decision on the matter, however, the official announcement is slated to come at a later date.
Along with Aleem Dar, former cricketers of the National team like Aqib Javed and Azhar Ali are also expected to be a part of the selection committee. As expected, Asad Shafiq will be retaining his post on the committee.
But it remains to be seen as to what happens to Aleem Dar. He will continue to officiate matches throughout the ongoing domestic season in Pakistan. The tri-series is expected to be his last official international outing. He is also expected to be out on the field in PSL 2025 which will most likely take place in May 2025.
“Umpiring has been my life for nearly 25 years and I have cherished the privilege of officiating some of the most iconic matches involving the greatest players of this generation. Throughout my career, I’ve strived to uphold the highest standards of sportsmanship, and it has been an honour to work alongside some of the finest match officials in the world,” retiring Aleem Dar said in a statement a couple of weeks back.
