Relief for Sri Lanka Cricket, ICC lifts suspension after 2 months

ICC suspended Sri Lanka Cricket on November 10 for political interference but since then SLC has made changes to selection committee.

Sri Lanka Cricket can breathe a sigh of relief. International Cricket Council (ICC) has lifted the suspension after two months. Following the suspension, Sri Lanka lost the hosting rights of ICC U19 World Cup. There were also doubts regarding ICC T20 World Cup 2026. But now, SLC are back in the fold. ICC banned SLC on November 10 for political interference.

“The ICC Board has been monitoring the situation since the suspension and are now satisfied that SLC are no longer in breach of membership obligations,” ICC said in a statement.

ICC imposed a ban on Sri Lanka Cricket on November 10 during the World Cup 2023 for violation of responsibilities as an ICC Member.

In the suspension letter, ICC wrote that SLC failed in “the requirement to manage its affairs autonomously and ensure that there is no government interference in the governance, regulation and/or administration of cricket in Sri Lanka.”

However, Sri Lanka could continue to play international cricket both bilateral and ICC tournaments.
