It was a night of records for legendary batter Virat Kohli. Not only did he score a brisk 29-ball fifty against MI at Wankhede Stadium on Monday, his 6th vs the opposition, but also became the first Indian ever to achieve the milestone of 13,000 T20 runs. That makes him only the fifth batter in the world to do so — after the likes of Chris Gayle, Keiron Pollard, Shoaib Malik, and Alex Hales.
Milestone 13,000 for Virat Kohli
That said, he isn’t too far behind the topper of the list, Gayle — who has 14562 runs in 463 matches. The next Indian on the list is Rohit Sharma with 11,851 runs to his name. Talking about Virat Kohli’s fifty, he looked in sublime form since the time he stepped on the wicket.
A lot was being said about his and Jasprit Bumrah’s rivalry, where the latter had dismissed him five times in 17 innings; that changed rather quickly, where Kohli greeted him with a six, on the very first ball from him, upon the latter’s return from injury after 93 days.
Extends Superior Record vs MI, Smashes 57th Fifty
Post that, Virat Kohli just continued to score heavily. His approach to attack all the bowlers brought up his 57th fifty, second in IPL 2025, in just 29 deliveries, at a strike-rate of 173 that included 6 fours and 2 sixes. That’s not it. The maestro extended his superior record against MI, and at Wankhede too.
Before the current MI-RCB clash, Kohli had played 33 matches against the Mumbai Indians and scored 855 runs at an average of 30, with 13 fifties. Whereas at the Wankhede, against the same opposition, he had 301 runs in 10 matches at an average of 43.
