Touted as India’s next Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy is almost certain to make his much-awaited Test debut. The opening Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test match at the Perth Stadium (Nov 22) is only a handful of days ahead and according to reports, Gautam Gambhir has decided to draft Nitish into the playing setup.
Nitish Kumar Reddy to play 1st BGT Test?
Team India won’t be having their skipper Rohit Sharma for the Perth Test as he has decided to stay back with his family after becoming a father for the second time. Moreover, Shubman Gill fractured his left thumb while fieldling during the match simulation against India A. Now, according to the IndianExpress, Team India has decided to go ahead with Nitish Reddy in Perth.
Nitish totally deserves it
The 2024 year has been quite a fascinating one for Nitish Reddy. He made a name for himself by having a superb IPL 2024 season with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Despite not playing all the matches, Nitish made 303 runs at a great average and strike rate of 33.6 and 142.92. Following that, he was fast-tracked into the T20I team, where he made an outstanding 74 in only his second international game against Bangladesh. Following that, Nitish went to play a Ranji Trophy game for Andhra, where he made a decent 47 before touring with the India A side in Australia.
Although he didn’t have an ideal practice games, Nitish now knows what it takes to play on difficult Aussie tracks. Regardless, a huge weightage has been given to Nitish’s rare skills of being a pace-bowling all-rounder. Despite not bowling over 135 KMPH, the 21-year-old sensation has superb bowling stats in first-class cricket, having taken 56 wickets at an average of under 27.
