Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Women are set to appoint Luke Williams as their new coach for the upcoming WPL edition. To note, Smriti Mandhana and Co. performed miserably in the opening edition of the Women’s Premier League which has now prompted the think tank to make some changes. Williams will be replacing Ben Sawyer as the head coach of the RCB Women and has made quite a name for himself in coaching several franchises around the world.
RCB-W finished on fourth Spot in WPL first Edition
As mentioned above, RCB had struggled in the inaugural WPL season earlier this year, finishing fourth out of five teams and winning only two of their eight group-stage games. The franchise had spent a lot of money in bagging some star players including Smriti Mandhana, Ellyse Perry and Sophie Devine. However, Mandhana and Co. could not deliver consistency in the first edition.
Speaking about RCB new coach Williams, following a short first-class career between 2000-2005 for South Australia. Williams spent four seasons in charge of Adelaide Strikers in the Women’s Big Bash League as the Strikers performed reasonably well under his command. It must be also noted that he was also Southern Brave’s assistant coach this year as the franchise went on to win their first ever Hundred title. Williams has also worked with South Australian Scorpions in the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) in Australia.
Earlier, RCB men’s team opted to include former LSG head coach Andy Flower in their camp. The changes have been made as Mike Hesson left his post as director of cricket – across both men and women’s teams. Hesson played a crucial role in RCB’s performance in IPL over the years. However, the former Kiwi player failed to help RCB clinch their maiden IPL title.
