Earlier, chasing 213, LSG started their innings on a shaky note, losing their in-form player, Mayers, for a duck. Mohammed Siraj’s brilliant first over and Wayne Parnell’s impressive debut performance kept the hosts in front. Deepak Hooda and Krunal Pandya fell cheaply, and LSG was struggling to keep up with the required run rate at the end of the powerplay.
But Marcus Stoinis had other plans. He took on the bowlers, scoring big sixes down the ground as he notched his first fifty of the season. However, the game was still in the balance after Stoinis’ dismissal. That’s when Pooran came in and changed the course of the game.
Pooran smoked seven sixes and four fours in his innings to get the fastest fifty of this season’s IPL. Pooran’s blitz brought the asking rate down to less than seven, and although he couldn’t stay until the end, he had done enough to put LSG in a comfortable position.
The hosts fought hard, taking the game to the very last ball but LSG managed to secure a victory to claim the top spot in the points table.
