The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Women have created history. They have become the first-ever team in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) history to chase down a target of over 200 runs. Facing the Gujarat Giants (GG) Women at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara, RCB Women looked down and out by the second over itself, having lost captain Smriti Mandhana and Danielle Wyatt-Hodge.
Richa Ghosh & Kanika Ahuja create history
However, Ellyse Perry wasn’t surrendering just yet. She didn’t get enough support from Raghvi Bisht from the other end, but the only good thing for RCB Women was that a wicket didn’t fall. At 100, Bisht departed and chased the dangerous Richa Ghosh. Perry couldn’t accompany the wicketkeeper for long, but Kanika Ahuja didn’t let her absence be felt.
In 6.1 overs, Ghosh and Ahuja scored a whopping 93 runs. They chased down 202 runs in just 18.3 overs. Unlikely for GG Women, this was the fourth time this was happening to them. Four of the highest successful run chases in WPL history have come against them.

RCB’s injury issues
Given how hampered they are, four players ruled out (Kate Cross, Sophie Devine, Sophie Molineux, and Asha Sobhana) even before the WPL 2025 season started for them. There are still concerns over two other players. Shreyanka Patil might be ruled out for the tournament as well, and Perry won’t bowl at least until the first half of the WPL gets over.
