The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have done the unthinkable. Despite being ranked 10th and having a 0.5% chance to end third or fourth on the points table, RCB has made it to the IPL 2024 Playoffs. The Faf du Plessis-led side had a 1-7 record and then went on to win their remaining six matches to make it to the Eliminator.
RCB defies the odds
On April 29, six weeks after the IPL 2024 started, our own Super Computer (BETSiE) predicted that RCB had a 35.6% chance to end up at the bottom of the points table and just 0.5% to make it to the eliminator. It’s fair to say that our Super Computer was wrong. That’s what makes cricket unique; the sheer unpredictability of the sport is what makes it stand apart from others.
However, we have to remind you that the prediction was made after the end of the 42nd match of the season. With just 28 league stage games left, no one would have given RCB a chance to make it to the IPL 2024 Playoffs.

Virat Kohli, the reason behind RCB’s late resurgence?
The experienced campaigner had earned himself a lot of flak for his slow scoring as Royal Challengers Bengaluru continued to stumble. However, as we entered the business end of the IPL 2024 season, Kohli upped his tempo. He scored 329 runs at 65.8 in the last 6 matches with a strike rate of 162.06.
Rajat Patidar also played a vital role, scoring 200 runs at a strike rate of 198.01 and adding three fifties to his name as well. Mohammed Siraj and Yash Dayal’s 8 wickets each in the last sixes victories were equally impressive. Cameron Green also finally came good for them, scoring over 150 runs and taking 5 wickets as well.
