Royal Challengers Bangalore had two moderate but decent picks in England batter Will Jacks and lanky left-arm seamer Reece Topley. The England pacer had recently troubled India in an ODI at the Lord’s. They did show interest in a few players but with lack of purse couldn’t go the distance.
RCB entered the auction having retained most of their squad that reached the playoffs. They had the second-lowest purse heading into the auction. However, director of cricket Mike Hesson will be pleased with their performance in the auction.
With Glenn Maxwell and injury doubt, RCB put hedged their bets on Will Jacks. The English all-rounder is an able contributor with both bat and ball and could replace the Australian should he miss the action. Furthermore, RCB had their eyes on backups and will be pleased to land Reece Topley. The left-arm pacer overs cover for Josh Hazlewood.
RCB cast their scouting nets wide and picked up a lot of lesser-known players. The three-time finalists signed Sonu Yadav and Manoj Bhadange for their base price. They faced some competition for Avinash Singh and Rajan Kumar, but eventually bagged them under the 1 crore tag.
