Ravindra Jadeja’s cryptic post adds fuel to fire over selection in ICC Champions Trophy squad

Ravindra Jadeja’s cryptic post adds fuel to fire over selection in ICC Champions Trophy squad

Ravindra Jadeja retired from the shortest format of the game after winning the T20 World Cup 2024

It is the end for Ravindra Jadeja in ODIs, right before the IND vs ENG series and the ICC Champions Trophy? The veteran all-rounder’s cryptic post on social media has raised huge concerns for the India Cricket Team. Jadeja had already retired from T20Is after winning the T20 World Cup.

The 36-year-old’s performance has been under the scanner off late. As per reports, the BCCI Selection Committee is looking for options beyond the superstar. And now Ravindra Jadeja‘s Instagram story which had a Test jersey with Pink number 8, adds fuel to the fire. It was Jadeja’s jersey number for the Sydney Test.

End of Ravindra Jadeja in ODIs?

There have been reports that the selectors are looking forward from Jadeja. This comes after Jadeja was ignored as a bowler in the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy. The southpaw was featured in just 3 Test matches out of the 5 games in Down Under.

“It’s all about when the selectors decide the transition needs to kick in. They will discuss if they want to go with a safe option in (Ravindra) Jadeja or move on right now,” a source told The Times of India.

Even in Test cricket, he has struggled to get going, though his bowling has been steady. There is an urge to move on from him, especially in the ODI format. It will be a tough call in the coming days,” the source added.

It remains to be seen what the BCCI think tank decides as the squad announcement might be delayed for some time. In the meantime, the board should be keen to put forward the best Playing XI that they can from the team. India had last won the Champions Trophy back in 2013.

Coming to his post, it was what Jadeja wore on the third day of the Sydney Test. As had been the norm it was Jane McGrath Day and the players wore Pink colored fonts on their white kits. The veteran all-rounder also presented his Pink to Glenn McGrath bright before the start of the day.
