Ravindra Jadeja’s mindset is like that of a top-order batter, opines ex-England cricketer Michael Vaughan. The southpaw slammed the second century of the day on Day 1 of IND vs ENG 3rd Test at Rajkot. Jaddu wasted no time in displaying hometown heroics as he smashed a ton on his return from injury.
‘Better than Rohit Sharma, Sarfaraz’: Vaughan on Jadeja
Vaughan tells Cricbuzz that Jadeja played a more traditional style of a Test than Rohit Sharma and debutant Sarfaraz Khan. He claims that the southpaw was a throwback of how Test cricket was played back in the days.
“Jadeja’s mindset is like a top-order batter despite him playing at No.7 for the most part of his career. He is willing to do the hard yards, he is willing to see a bowler off, he played more traditional style Test match than Rohit Sharma and Sarfaraz Khan. He was a throwback to how we played Test match cricket. Just bat, bat and bat, do not give any chances.”
Day 1 was all about Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja. The duo showed England the true potential of the current Indian team. After being reduced to 33/3, the Indian skipper and the world’s No. 1 Test all-rounder put on a mammoth 204-run stand.
Returning from a hamstring injury, the all-rounder slammed his 4th Test ton and his second one at his home ground, the newly renamed Rajkot Stadium.
Debutant Sarfaraz Khan also joined the party by scoring the second-fastest fifty (48 balls) by an Indian on debut. The spin expert bashed Joe Root, Tom Hartley, and Rehan Ahmed and didn’t hesitate to charge James Anderson. His third session burst saw India go past 300 with ease.
Jadeja’s knock came to an end on Day 2 as Joe Root struck in the 1st session. A caught and bowled by the spinner brought the curtains down on Jadeja’s 112-run knock.
