Jadeja becomes India’s highest wicket-taker in Asia Cup after 3-wicket haul against Nepal

With 22 wickets to his name, Jadeja is also the highest wicket-taker in the ODI Asia Cup among active players.

Star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has toppled yet another record. The left-arm spinner became India’s most successful bowler in the Asia Cup after claiming a 3-wicket haul in the IND vs NEP encounter in the ODI Asia Cup 2023. Jadeja claimed three consecutive wickets to break Nepal’s batting lineup’s backbone. He sent Bhim Sharki, skipper Rohit Paudel, and Kushal Malla in the space of six overs to restrict the Rhinos to just 230 runs.

Ravindra Jadeja breaks Irfan Pathan’s record

The spinner broke left-arm pacer Irfan Pathan’s 12-year-old record. Before the IND vs NEP clash, Jadeja had 19 wickets to his name in 15 matches. After his crucial 3 wickets, the Gujarat cricketer has levelled Pathan’s record.

With 22 wickets in 16 matches, Ravindra Jadeja is 6th on the all-time highest wicket-takers list and number one among active players in the ODI Asia Cup. The finger spinner has a bowling average, strike rate, and economy of 24.77, 34.40, and 4.31, respectively, in the 50-over event.

Shakib al Hasan (21 wickets), Shaheen Afridi (10 wickets), Rashid Khan (10 wickets), and Mustafizur Rahman (10 wickets) are the other players to feature in the top 5 active wicket-takers in the ODI Asia Cup.

Nepal’s fightback in the 1st inning

Sompal Kami and Aasif Sheikh put up a great fight as they guided Nepal to a respectable total of 230. After putting up an opening stand of 65, the Rhinos lost their way and lost half their side for just 132 runs. That’s when Sompal and Dipendra Airee came and constructed a 50-run stand to take their side from 132-5 to 230. For the Men in Blue, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj starred with the ball, picking up three wickets each.
