Indian veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was named in the Indian squad set to take on the mighty Australia in 3-match ODI series starting from September 21 onwards. To note, Ashwin played his ODI game against South Africa in January 2022. With Ashwin included in the squad, the off-spinner will be eyeing a return in the Indian squad for the upcoming World Cup 2023. To note, the 37-year-old was also part of the WC winning squad in 2011 and played a crucial role in the quarter-final’s of that event against the Kangaroos.
Ashwin has 151 Wickets in 113 ODIs
Speaking about Ashwin’s numbers in 50-over format, he has played 113 matches and scalped 151 wickets at an average of 33.5. Ashwin bowls at a decent economy of 4.94 with 4/25 being his best figures. Ashwin is a very clever customer and can be more than handy on turning tracks. The senior pro can be handy with the bat as well. Ashwin has an average of 16.44 with one fifty to his name.
Apart from Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar and Axar Patel have also been named in the squad against Australia. With Kuldeep and Jadeja doing well with the ball, Ashwin might have to wait for his turn but needs to be ready to prove his point once he gets the opportunity later in the series.

KL Rahul will lead the Indian side in the first two games. While the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Hardik Pandya will be back for the final match of the series. In the absence of the senior players, the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Prasidh Krishna, and Shreyas Iyer will want to perform well in order to seal their spot for the marquee event. As mentioned above, India takes on Australia in the series opener on September 22 (Friday).
