Ravichandran Ashwin Homecoming: Set to lead Chennai Super Kings’ new high performance centre

Ashwin's return to the India Cements fold and his potential role with CSK open a new chapter for both parties. His leadership at the HPC and his possible return to the playing squad have the potential to significantly impact Chennai cricket for years to come.

Veteran Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has rejoined the India Cements group, a move that paves the way for a potential return to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise. This high-profile transfer signals Ashwin’s deep-rooted connection to Chennai cricket ahead of Indian Premier League 2025 Auction (IPL 2025).

Ashwin is no stranger to the India Cements family. This marks his return after a brief hiatus. Early in his IPL career, he was part of the set-up. In 2016, Ashwin ventured outside the India Cements umbrella, joining their rivals Chemplast. Two years later, he moved on to Take Solutions, the owners of the Dindigul Dragons in the Tamil Nadu Premier League, where he currently plays.

Ravichandran Ashwin: Return to Familiar Territory

Ravichandran Ashwin‘s homecoming involves a multifaceted role. He is also set to be at the helm of the upcoming Chennai Super Kings High Performance Centre (HPC), a state-of-the-art facility expected to be operational before the next IPL 2025 season as per the Indian Express.

This role allows him to contribute to the development of young cricketing talent in Chennai.

R Ashwin’s CSK Legacy: Strong Possibility of Reuniting

While R Ashwin’s return, who currently plays for Rajasthan Royals, to CSK isn’t guaranteed, the possibilities are strong. Since the upcoming IPL 2025 auction is a mega auction, trades between teams are not on the table. This means CSK will have to acquire R Ashwin through the auction process.

If the IPL auction doesn’t go CSK’s way and they miss out on Ashwin, there’s a slim chance they could try to acquire him through a trade with another team after the auction.

CSK CEO, K. Viswanathan, acknowledges the uncertainty surrounding the auction but remains optimistic. He highlights Ashwin’s role with the HPC, stating, “We have signed him back. He is now part of the CSK venture.”

Long-Awaited Move: R Ashwin to CSK

Discussions about Ashwin rejoining India Cements have been ongoing for a couple of years. N. Srinivasan, owner of India Cements, previously praised Ashwin’s achievements and hinted at a future role. With the establishment of the HPC, that future has arrived.

Chennai Super Kings HPC: Fostering Talent

The Chennai Super Kings HPC represents a significant development for the franchise. This facility, combined with their existing academies, provides a comprehensive training ground for aspiring cricketers across the globe. Ashwin’s leadership at the HPC is expected to play a crucial role in its success.

Ashwin statement on India Cements (CSK) move

Ashwin expressed his enthusiasm for his new role, emphasizing his desire to contribute to the cricketing community. This move marks a return to his roots, having started his domestic career with India Cements and risen to national prominence during his first stint with CSK (2008-2015).

“Growing the game and contributing to the cricketing fraternity is my primary focus,” he said.
