India’s hopes of lifting the 2023 ODI World Cup trophy suffered a heartbreaking end at the hands of Australia in the final. Now, India’s squad member Ravichandran Ashwin has come forward to reveal the dressing room’s atmosphere.
Ashwin sat out of the playing XI of the ODI World Cup most of the time, playing just one match in the whole tournament. India bulldozed every team that came their way in the tournament, reaching the finals without losing a match. However, Australia outplayed India in the finals to send the hopes of India dashing.
Now, Ashwin has revealed what went on in the Indian dressing room after the final, claiming that the final left senior cricketers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in tears.
“Yes, we felt the pain. Rohit and Virat were crying. Seeing that it felt bad. Anyways, not meant to be. This team was an experienced team. Everybody knew what to do. And then, it was professional. Everybody knew their routines, and warm-ups. I think two natural leaders gave the team the space to do these two and created a vibe,” former Indian cricketer Subramaniam Badrinath on the latter’s Youtube channel.

Ashwin also hailed the leadership skills of Rohit Sharma, saying he has led from the front.
“Rohit Sharma is an outstanding person. He understands every single person in the team, he knows what each one of us likes and dislikes. He puts in a lot of effort. Forgoes sleep and becomes part of meetings. He takes an effort to understand how to explain tactics to each person. That’s an advanced level of leadership in Indian cricket,” Ashwin added.
