Ravichandran Ashwin poses happily with teammate set to deny him 500 Test wickets in IND vs SA Test series

Ashwin currently has 489 Test wickets, and needs only 11 more to join the elite list of international bowlers to have taken 500 wickets in Test matches

The Indian team is preparing hard for the upcoming IND vs SA Test series. After winning the IND vs SA ODI series, Rohit Sharma’s men will look to win their maiden Test series in South Africa. Ahead of the match that starts on December 26, veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin posted a picture on his X (previously Twitter) account. Ashwin posed with Ravindra Jadeja in the picture, and the irony was not lost on us.

Ashwin currently has 489 Test wickets, and needs only 11 more to join the elite list of international bowlers to have taken 500 wickets in Test matches. However, interestingly it will be Jadeja in all probability that will deny Ashwin the chance to take the 11 remaining wickets in the IND vs SA Test series. India are not likely to play two spinners in South Africa, meaning either Ashwin or Jadeja will find themselves in the starting XI.

Ashwin will likely sit out of the starting XI in the IND vs SA 1st Test as Jadeja is more likely to get the nod, specially due to his ability to bat in the lower-middle order.

However, these analysis does not seem to bother Ashwin too much as he looked in jovial mood while posing with Ravindra Jadeja on Friday.

Insidesport

Will Ashwin’s expression change once he finds out it is the man posing beside him that denied him a chance to play in the IND vs SA 1st Test? Hopefully not.
