Ashwin pips Bumrah to take top spot in ICC Test Rankings following nine-wicket haul in 100th Test

Ravichandran Ashwin claimed stunning figures of 9/128 against England in his 100 Test, which is suprisingly identical to his forst Test, against West Indies

Veteran India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has ascended to the top of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test Rankings, displacing Jasprit Bumrah. This rise was declared in the latest rankings update on Wednesday, March 13, after Ashwin lost the top spot in January 2024.

Ashwin’s exceptional performance in the recent 5-Test series against England, where India clinched victory with a 4-1 scoreline, propelled him to the summit. Despite initial setbacks and a mid-series departure due to a family emergency, Ashwin displayed resilience and made significant contributions in the later Tests, notably in Ranchi and Dharamsala.

Latest news on Ravichandran Ashwin:

During his 100th Test appearance in Dharamsala, Ashwin showcased his mastery by claiming 9 wickets, including a crucial five-wicket haul in the second innings, leading India to a convincing victory by innings and 64 runs. Furthermore, Ashwin achieved a remarkable milestone during the Rajkot Test, joining the exclusive club of bowlers with 500 Test wickets, a feat previously attained only by Anil Kumble among Indian cricketers.
