Former India head coach Ravi Shastri called out Indian skipper Rohit Sharma for “missing the trick” after lunch on Day 2 of the IND vs SA 1st Test at Centurion.
The Test match was in balance with South Africa at 49/1 at lunch. However, Rohit Sharma’s decision to start with Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna post the break allowed Dean Elgar and Tony de Zorzi to settle down. The first 30 minutes of the second session saw Elgar and De Zorzi dealing in boundaries.
“I think India would feel they missed a massive trick in that first half and hour play post lunch. The two bowlers they started with, I think tactically was probably a big mistake that led South Africa off the hook”, Shastri said on commentary.

Both Prasidh and Shardul had an off day with ball. While Prasidh went for six runs an over, Shardul also failed to make an impact in the first two sessions.
South Africa ended the day at 256/5 in response to India’s 245 in the first innings. Dean Elgar remained unbeaten on 140, with Marco Jansen alongside him.
