The Mumbai Indians (MI) have built a decent team at the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025? They already had the best retention combination. Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Tilak Varma, and, of course, the world’s best bowler in Jasprit Bumrah, were already with the team. Now, they needed to stack up the bowling unit. Mumbai Indians sat out during the entire two sets of Marquee List but found their old star back in Trent Boult. But they needed to bring quality spin, wicket-keeping options, and players to back Bumrah. How have MI fared at the IPL 2025 Auction? Let us discuss below.

More on IPL 2025
Mumbai Indians: Hits at IPL Auction 2025
First of all, kudos to the Mumbai Indians for roping in Trent Boult. The former MI pacer formed one of the greatest bowling pair with Jasprit Bumrah as the two won them the title in IPL 2020. His back-up is Reece Topley, which is a great buy too but he is a injury prone as well.
Meanwhile, MI went hard on Bhuvneshwar Kumar but failed to get him as he was bought by RCB. Then, MI went all in for Deepak Chahar, who will take up the new-ball responsibility with Boult. MI also have brought in Mitchell Santner, who will solve their long-term problem of lack of spin bowlers.
The best buy was indeed Will Jacks, who was roped in for just Rs 5.25 crore. He can bat anywhere in the top order and can even bowl spin, something that can help Hardik Pandya massively.
Mumbai Indians: Misses at IPL Auction 2025
This Mumbai team is surely not up to the mark. They lack depth among Indian pacers. They would’ve really done well by going for Wanindu Hasaranga, who could’ve been an ideal number seven for them. But now they have to play Mitchell Santner, who is not renowned for his batting skills.
No doubt, MI have a power-packed batting unit, but they lack superb wicket-keeping options. Surely, the void left by Ishan Kishan would be felt. Robin Minz is touted to be a great talent, but he is far away from a finished commodity. Ryan Rickelton has to play, meaning there is overdependence on an unproven player (in the IPL). Overall, there is a huge issue of balance within the team. Glenn Maxwell, Aaron Hardie, Washington Sundar, and Glenn Phillips all went for extreme low prices. MI should’ve went hard for these players. Moreover, backup for openers are lacking.
