Rassie van der Dussen has named MI Cape Town teammate Ryan Rickelton as former South African opener Quinton De Kock’s replacement. Rickelton has been in blistering form in the ongoing SA20, scoring 87 and 98 in the first two games.
Rickelton tops the scoring charts of SA20 at the moment, and der Dussen backed him to take the place of Proteas southpaw Quinton De Kock.
De Kock retired from ODIs after the 2023 ODI World Cup. The left-hander had already retired from Test cricket. He is only available for the T20Is at the moment, although he was given a break in the IND vs SA T20I series. However, it doesn’t look like De Kock will play in T20Is for long too, with coach white-ball coach Rob Walter earlier revealing that De Kock wanted to retire from all formats. There is a high probability De Kock hangs up his boots in international cricket after the T20 World Cup 2024.
Van der Dussen has now expressed confidence about Ryan Rickelton taking South Africa’s opening spot in T20Is.
“Quinny (Quinton de Kock) will be moving on and Ryan fits into that mould of someone who can replace Quinny. He definitely has the game. He’s very resilient and sometimes setbacks give you a platform to come back,” der Dussen said.
