Ranji Trophy tracker: Jadeja puts 10-star show, Rohit-Iyer fail before Shardul Thakur saves Mumbai

After Day 2 of Round 6, only one result has been possible so far, with Saurashtra thrashing Delhi by 10 wickets.

The “stars” have forced even the casual watchers to tune into the Ranji Trophy and now everyone knows that it is not as easy as one would hope in domestic circuit. The likes of Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant have all put up ordinary shows. The exception was obviously Ravindra Jadeja, who claimed his career’s 10th ten-wicket haul in a first-class match as he rattled Delhi’s batting lineup with a masterful performance. Another India all-rounder starred as well. It was Shardul Thakur who saved Mumbai from an embarrassment against Jammu and Kashmir. Thakur had a match-changing 8th-wicket partnership with Tanush Kotian as the duo gave a lifeline to Mumbai.

In other news, Rishabh Pant faltered massively as his Delhi side gave a target of a mere 12 runs to Saurashtra after Jadeja wreaked havoc. Shubman Gill, meanwhile, is batting as Punjab also face huge defeat against Karnataka. For Jharkhand, Ishan Kishan got out for just 23 against Chattisgarh. Let us see how all the stars did on Day 2 of the Ranji Trophy Round 6.

Rohit Sharma continues horror show

There was a huge hype for this round of Ranji Trophy fixtures, especially because of the return of Rohit Sharma. The Hitman looked at all sea in the first innings and continued his poor form in the second innings as well. Unlike in the first innings, second innings saw Rohit in his element somewhat as he stroked some delightful hits. He clubbed two fours and three sixes in his 28-run stay. Rohit Sharma’s Ranji Trophy comeback ended with just 3 and 28, raising a big question mark on his Test cricket future.

Shreyas Iyer, Jaiswal flop as well

Alongside Rohit, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer also flopped. Many hoped Jaiswal would run riot against J&K but he managed just 4 & 28 in the match. Jaiswal was also undone by Yudhvir Charak, who also dismissed Rohit in the second innings. Meanwhile, it was an interesting stay by Shreyas Iyer, who got a lifeline courtesy of a howler by the umpire. Iyer, who made 11 in the 1st innings, got out at 17 as he edged one to the keeper, who took a superb diving catch.

Shardul Thakur, take a bow!

There was a huge chance that J&K win their first-ever Ranji Trophy match against Mumbai, who were reeling at 91/6. Shortly thereafter, Shams Mulani’s departure further worsened the situation, reducing the score to 101/7. However, Thakur, along with Tanush Kotian, delivered an impressive performance. Both batters guided Mumbai to a respectable 274/7, securing a lead of 188 runs, which was indeed remarkable.

Nicknamed “Lord Shardul,” the all-rounder is indeed a crisis man for Mumbai, who has time and again come up with some sensational performances. He was not selected at the IPL 2025 mega auction and was hasn’t played Test cricket since December 2023. But bringing up these kind of performances under Rohit Sharma’s watch might have just raised Shardul’s stock massively.

Ravindra Jadeja with “10-star” show

Ravindra Jadeja has delivered his finest bowling performances in situations when nearly every Indian star who attempted to return to the first-class ranks failed. Jadeja has claimed five more wickets in the current Ranji Trophy encounter against Delhi, completing his tenth 10-wicket haul in first-class cricket. He was the Player of the Match with a brilliant seven-wicket haul in the second innings, which included the dismissal of Rishabh Pant.

Jadeja stole the show, taking a five-wicket haul in the first innings and following it up with a devastating 7/38 in the second innings. Jadeja’s spell, which included the wickets of Rishabh Pant and Ayush Badoni, helped bundle Delhi out for just 94 runs. Saurashtra required only 12 runs to win the match, thanks to Jadeja’s incredible match figures of 12/104.
