Ranji Trophy Round-up: All-time record broken, CSK pacer stars again & 22-year-old beats Siraj

8 teams have punched their ticket to the Ranji Trophy quarterfinals. The QFs will begin from Feb 8.

We finally have ourselves the teams who have qualified for the Ranji Trophy quarterfinals. Mumbai did the unthinkable by thrashing Meghalaya and taking help from Jammu and Kashmir. However, there was agony in store for Ravindra Jadeja’s Saurashtra, who failed to qualify due to an inferior Net Run Rate (NRR). Despite their win, they had -0.029, with Chandigarh bettering it (+0.983). Meanwhile, we had one historic match on the last day of the league stages as well. While Mohammed Siraj’s return to Hyderabad didn’t yield much success for the state. Madhya Pradesh skipper Shubham Sharma finished the league stage as the highest run-getter (943), while Harsh Dubey ended as the highest wicket-taker (54).

All-time record broken by Services

The Services cricket team etched their name into the history books with a record-breaking chase against Odisha in the Ranji Trophy. Playing at the DRIEMS Cricket Academy in Cuttack, they successfully chased down a daunting target of 376 runs without losing a wicket, marking the highest-ever successful fourth-innings chase in First-Class cricket without losing a wicket.

The foundation of this historic victory was laid by openers Shubham Rohilla and Suraj Vashisht, whose unbroken 376-run partnership dismantled Odisha’s bowling attack. Rohilla played a career-defining innings, scoring his first-ever First-Class double-century (209*), while Vashisht reached his maiden red-ball century (154*). Their flawless batting display lasted 85.4 overs, leaving the Odisha bowlers without an answer.

This chase is particularly remarkable given that Services had trailed by 19 runs after being bowled out for 199 in their first innings. Odisha’s 394-run second-innings total seemed imposing, but Rohilla and Vashisht’s determination ensured a smooth chase.

Mohammed Siraj’s Hyderabad lost against Vidarbha

Mohammed Siraj’s much-anticipated return to the Ranji Trophy after five years was overshadowed by a 22-year-old sensation, Harsh Dubey. The Vidarbha all-rounder single-handedly wrecked Hyderabad’s hopes with his stellar performance, guiding his team to a remarkable 58-run victory at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur. Dubey, who has been the leading wicket-taker of the season, showcased his all-round brilliance in this encounter. With Vidarbha struggling at 190 in the first innings, his crucial 65 kept them in the game. However, Hyderabad capitalized on their batting advantage, posting a commanding 326, thanks to Tanmay Agarwal’s 136.

Despite Hyderabad’s lead, Vidarbha stormed back with a strong second innings. Karun Nair’s classy 105 and Atharva Taide’s solid 93 were vital, but Dubey once again made his mark with a 55-run knock. Vidarbha set Hyderabad a target of 220, and that’s when Dubey truly stole the show. Returning to bowl, the young left-arm spinner produced a mesmerizing spell of 6/57, single-handedly dismantling Hyderabad’s batting order. His eight wickets in the match made him the first bowler to claim 50 scalps in the ongoing Ranji season.

CSK pacer is here to stay!

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have a good news coming there way as new signing Anshul Kamboj is having a superb domestic season so far. The right-armer pacer, who has also played for the India A, recently castled a talented Karnataka batting order. Kamboj took 4 wickets in the first innings, followed by a three-wicket haul at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Against the likes of KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and Devdutt Padikkal, Kamboj had his tail up as he helped Haryana finish to the top of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group C. Kamboj has so far taken 29 wickets at an incredible strike rate of 27.00 so far this season. CSK snatched him from rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) for 3.40 crore.
