Ranji Trophy Day 3 Round-up: Gaikwad, Easwaran hit straps & Mumbai script comeback

Tripura vs Odisha game saw another day get washed out as not a single ball has been bowled so far.

We witnessed a fascinating Day 3 of the ongoing Ranji Trophy as the first-class battle continued between some of the best state cricket teams. Mumbai, the defending champions staged a phenomenal comeback in their clash against Baroda. The Ajinkya Rahane-led team leaked a 85-run lead but now eye an outright win on Day 4.

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s strong start for Maharashtra

After getting ignored from the Indian T20I plans, Ruturaj Gaikwad is looking to strengthen his credentials as a red-ball player. With Rohit Sharma probably missing out for a Test Down Under, Ruturaj Gaikwad is aiming to put up some runs under his belt. And the Maharashtra captain did it by smashing a fighting 86 against Jammu & Kashmir. Although he batted at number four, his 86 runs helped Maharashtra to close their gap against J&K, who hammered a fabulous 519.

Opener Siddhesh Veer clubbed 127, while Gaikwad missed out on his ton, getting bowled against LSG pacer Yudhvir Singh Charak.

Abhimanyu Easwaran continues his dream run

In his last ten innings, Abhimanyu Easwaran has hammered 873 runs at an immaculate average of 124.7. This is absolutely remarkable for a red-ball batter, gunning for a spot in the Indian team as a backup opener. While he has a fight against Gaikwad for the spot, Easwaran is pipping the CSK skipper as of now. The Bengal veteran is unbeaten in the second innings at 78 against Uttar Pradesh in Lucknow.
