32, 9, 5, 0, 17, 0: Rajat Patidar has perhaps written the obituary of his short Test career after yet another failure. In six innings, he has scored 63 runs at an average of 10.50. In the 2nd innings of IND vs ENG 4th Test, he had the chance to be the hero with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma departing in quick succession. However, instead of taking India to victory, Patidar succumbed to pressure, departing for a 5-ball duck. It was his second duck in his brief Test career. With KL Rahul likely returning in Dharamsala, he seems to be the only choice to be dropped.
Premature end?
With no Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar got the nod after an excellent series for India A against England Lions. In fact, he got the opportunity ahead of Sarfaraz Khan who had mountains of runs in domestic cricket.
What seemed like a promising start after he scored 32 on debut soon fizzled out. Rajat Patidar could only manage 9, 5, 0, 17, 0 in the next five innings to all but write the obituary of his Test career.
To remind all, KL Rahul is close to being fully fit while Virat Kohli will return in the next Test series and Ruturaj Gaikwad will also regain full fitness.
Hence, Rajat Patidar may not even get an opportunity once again.
