The much-anticipated T20 World Cup warm-up clash between Afghanistan and Oman was sadly called off due to persistent rain at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad on Wednesday (local time).
Oman shine despite gloomy weather
Although the weather refused to cooperate, Oman’s batsmen put on a commendable display. Captain Aqib Ilyas led the charge with a stellar knock of 66 runs off just 48 deliveries, including seven boundaries and three maximums.
Zeeshan Maqsood, fresh off his 45 runs against Papua New Guinea, provided valuable support with a quickfire 35 runs. Oman’s openers got them off to a brisk start, reaching 35 runs within the first four overs before rain forced a temporary halt.
Afghanistan vs Oman: Match Abandoned
Unfortunately, after Oman’s batting innings, the rain intensified, rendering the outfield unplayable. With Afghanistan unable to begin their chase, the match officials were left with no choice but to abandon the contest.
This leaves both teams with a sense of disappointment, having lost crucial practice time before the T20 World Cup gets underway.

With better weather conditions in the remaining warm-up matches, both Afghanistan and Oman will have the opportunity to fine-tune their tactics and strategies before the main event.
