Rahul Dravid son Samit takes first step to greatness, named in Karnataka squad

The younger son of Rahul Dravid, is the captain of the state's U14 cricket squad.

The 15-player Karnataka squad for the 2023 Vinoo Mankad Trophy has been expanded to include Samit, the son of India head coach Rahul Dravid. The U-19 competition will take place in Hyderabad from October 12 to October 20.

Samit, who turns 18 the day before the competition, had previously played for Karnataka in U14 competitions, but this will be his first experience playing U-19 cricket.

Anvay, the younger son of Rahul Dravid, is the captain of the state’s U14 cricket squad.

When he made his Ranji debut in the 1991–1992 season, Rahul Dravid himself had represented the state side not only at the senior level but also at the U–15, U–17, and U–19 levels.

However, the 2023 ODI World Cup, which starts on October 5, means that the India head coach won’t be able to witness his older son compete in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy.

Rahul Dravid: A Prodigy

With 10,768 runs from 340 ODIs at an average of 39.15, Rahul Dravid is fourth among Indian ODI run scorers. On the list, only Sourav Ganguly (11,221), Virat Kohli, and Sachin Tendulkar (18,426) are ahead of him.

He trails Sachin Tendulkar in Tests, though, with 13,625 runs at an average of 52.63 in 163 games. Tendulkar has played in 200 games and scored 15,921 runs. He continues to be India’s second-highest run scorer overall in international cricket to this point.

Dravid concluded his career with 336 catches in total, 210 of which were in Test matches. He was regarded as one of the safest fielders in the slip cordon. In the Test format, it’s the most ever by a fielder. He ranks fourth overall for catches, after only Jacques Kallis (338), Mahela Jayawardene (440), and Ricky Ponting (364) on the list.

Rahul Dravid amassed a total of 24,208 runs from 509 international matches across all formats, and was renowned for his flawless defense and tremendous patience at the crease. He left the world with 48 centuries under his belt, 36 of which were written in the conventional style.

A three-match ODI series between Rahul Dravid-coached India and Australia is presently underway. In Mohali, the team led by KL Rahul defeated Australia by five wickets to take a 1-0 series lead.
