The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are IPL champions once again. Their decade-long title drought has come to an end. Their mentor, Gautam Gambhir, and captain, Shreyas Iyer, will be the ones who’ll be celebrated the most. But it might be that Rahmatullah Gurbaz’s ailing mother helped the franchise win the IPL 2024 title.
Chasing a low total (114), the wicketkeeper batter played a calm and calculated inning of 39. He couldn’t take his team across the line, but he did enough to ensure they got there easily. After winning the KKR vs SRH Final, Gurbaz said:
“My mother was not doing okay, but she’s doing okay now. I spoke to her, and I asked her if she wanted something. She said, I don’t want anything, but I want you guys to win.”

Gurbaz left sick mother to join KKR
After winning the Qualifier 1 match, Rahmatullah Gurbaz revealed that he’d returned back to KKR despite his mother being hospitalized. He called the franchise family and said that it was his duty to be present when the Knights needed him the most.
“My mother is still unwell and in the hospital but KKR is also my family. When they said they needed me as Salt is leaving, I had to come back,” Gurbaz said after the match.
