Ahead of IND vs NZ, Rachin Ravindra's father revealed that the batter was not named after Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid

New Zealand batting sensation Rachin Ravindra has emerged as one of the breakout stars of the World Cup 2023, having a stellar run with the bat so far. The Indian-origin Kiwi star will play a crucial role for the Black Caps as the square off against India in the semi-finals of the World Cup at Wankhede in Mumbai. Ahead of the big name, Rachin’s father made a huge revelation on the batter’s name.

Rachin Ravindra not named after Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid

Earlier, reports had suggested that Rachin Ravindra was named after the legendary Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. However, the Kiwi batter’s father disputed the claim and has said that he did not spend a lot of time on the name. He also revealed that the name was his wife’s idea and that he accepted it.

“When Rachin was born, my wife suggested the name, and we didn’t spend a lot of time discussing it,” said Ravi Krishnamurthy, Ravindra’s father, to The Print.

“The name sounded good, was easy to spell, and short, so we decided to go with it. It was only some years later that we realised the name was a mix of Rahul and Sachin’s names. He wasn’t named with the intention to make our child a cricketer or anything of the sort.”
