It was his last day in International cricket and yet Ravichandran Ashwin didn’t try to make the day all about himself. Right after the conclusion of the Gabba Test, the veteran cricket announced that he is hanging up his boots from international cricket. He had to make the announcement at the Post match press conference, but he claimed that some other bowler deserved to be at the side of Rohit Sharma after India’s mega comeback.
Taking on the microphone, an emotional Aswin claimed that it would have been nice if someone like Jasprit Bumrah or Akash Deep were present. The duo were solid with the bat, helped India avoid follow-on on Day 4 and then hit back hard at the Aussies with the ball on Day 5.

“It would have been nice to have Bumrah or Akash Deep here. Instead Rohit is unfortunate to have me here alongside him,” Ravi Ashwin said in the press conference.
It was a beautiful scene and would surely leave any Indian with tears on their eyes. Such was the humility of the man that he didn’t want to take the centre stage even after announcing his retirement. He wanted someone else to be present in the Press Conference.
He even clarified that Rohit Sharma is unfortunate enough to be stuck with him there. After Ashwin’s retirement speech, the Indian captain too praised highly. He claimed that Ashwin had previously decided to retire but Rohit forced Ashwin to play the IND vs AUS Pink Ball Test.
Ravi Ashwin retires from International cricket. In Tests, he has played 106 Test matches where he has scored 3503 runs and sclaped 537 wickets.
