India cricket team spinner Ravichandran Ashwin dubbed head coach Gautam Gambhir as a relaxed coach following the latter’s first Test win after taking over the reins from Rahul Dravid. The veteran spinner played an instrumental role in IND vs BAN 1st Test in Chennai to guide Rohit Sharma and co. to a massive 280-run win. The Tamil Nadu star compared Gambhir to former India head coach Rahul Dravid and explained how the two were very different in their approaches and demeanour.
‘Relaxed ‘ Gambhir vs ‘Regimented’ Rahul Dravid
Speaking on his YouTube channel after Day 4 of the contest in Chennai, Ashwin drew a parallel between the two stalwarts. Calling Gambhir ‘relaxed Rancho’, the spinner revealed that the former Indian cricketer was not tensed at any moment, going on to cite an example of the team huddle everyday morning. He stated that Rahul Dravid, on the other hand, was very regimented who wanted things to be in order.
“I think he is very relaxed. I have decided to call him ‘relaxed Rancho’. In the morning, there is a huddle. Gambhir is like, ‘join if you want to’. Rahul bhai (Dravid) on the other hand is very regimented. He wanted everything in order. Gambhir has nothing as such. I feel he will capture the hearts of the fans and the players will love him,” Ashwin said.
