Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2021-22: Pakistan opener Abid Ali rushed to hospital from ground after chest pain

According to team manager Ashraf Ali, the right-hander twice complained of chest pain before being taken to the hospital.

“He was batting on 61 this morning when he complained about having chest pain twice and we felt it was best to send him to hospital where he is presently under observation and undergoing some more tests,” Ashraf, a former Test wicketkeeper-batter, said.

Later, the PCB released an official statement, revealing that the Abid Ali has been diagnosed with Acute Coronary Syndrome and is currently under a stable condition.

“Central Punjab opener Abid Ali complained of chest pain during his innings against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final-round match at the UBL Sports Complex, Karachi today. Abid left the batting crease at 61 in Central Punjab’s second innings.

“Abid was taken immediately to a cardiac hospital where he was diagnosed as a case of Acute Coronary Syndrome. He is under the care of Consultant Cardiologist who is liaising with PCB medical team regarding further treatment. He is currently stable.

“It is requested to respect his and the family’s privacy at this time.

“More details will be provided in due course,” the board said in its statement.

The Lahore-born was batting alongside his opening partner Rizwan Hussain and completed 9000 first-class Test runs during the course of the innings.

Abid Ali has so far played 16 Test matches and 6 ODIs for Pakistan. Ali has been in sublime form recently as he hit his sixth Test century during Pakistan’s recently-concluded tour of Bangladesh. In Central Punjab’s match against Sindh from December 12, he scored 98 runs in the first innings.
