Punjab Kings script greatest comeback in IPL history, topple KKR from 2.06% chance to win

After 9 overs in the second innings, Punjab Kings' win probability was 2.06%. From there they took 7 wickets in 6.1 overs and won the match by 16 runs.

My word, what have we witnessed at the Mullanpur Cricket Stadium? The Punjab Kings (PBKS) have successfully defended 111 runs, the lowest total ever defended in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were the favourites to win the match, and from needing 41 runs to win in 11 overs with 7 wickets in hand, they somehow lost the match.

Punjab Kings pull off the greatest comeback in IPL history

Undoubtedly, this has to be the greatest-ever comeback in IPL history. And PBKS haven’t won the match by just 1 or 2 runs but 16 runs. Who in their right mind would have bet on Shreyas Iyer and co. to win? Their dugout looks lost for words after they managed to score just 111.

A couple of hours later, they have won the match. Dismissing KKR for just 95 runs in 15.1 overs. Words can’t describe what just happened in Mullanpur. To think that KKR had a 97.94% winning probability and yet they have somehow lost is just mind-boggling.

Credit must be given to Yuzvendra Chahal and Marco Jansen. Combined, they claimed 7 wickets in 7.1 overs. Chahal had taken just 2 wickets in 5 prior matches and was having a horrible IPL 2025 season. But when it mattered the most, he delivered for PBKS. As they say, form is temporary and class is permanent.

Arshdeep Singh and Glenn Maxwell kept the pressure on. They took 2 wickets in 5 overs. But only gave away 16 runs. Making his PBKS debut, Xavier Bartlett went for 30 runs in 3 overs, but his early wicket of Quinton de Kock gave his team the hope for victory.
