Punjab Kings’ foreign players and captain Shreyas Iyer were supposed to arrive and join the squad on Monday ahead of IPL 2025. Most of the players, like Iyer and Marcus Stoinis, have arrived and joined the squad, but one of the notable names in the squad, Azmatullah Omarzai’s, arrival has been delayed due to personal reasons. Omarzai, the ICC ODI Player of the Year, will join the team on March 20.
Preparations for the season opener
Punjab Kings are gearing up for their season opener against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on March 25. This season also marks the beginning of captain Shreyas Iyer and head coach Ricky Ponting’s journey with the team. Ponting has already joined the squad in Dharamsala.
Indian players assemble
Indian players, including new recruit Yuzvendra Chahal, arrived in Chandigarh on Sunday night after a training camp in Dharamsala. Arshdeep Singh and captain Shreyas Iyer, both part of India’s Champions Trophy squad, have also joined the team. Indian players were given a week off after their Champions Trophy victory.

Expectations from the Team
“Omarzai has some issue at home. He will be in India by March 20. The rest of the foreign players start trickling in from today,” an IPL source said. After guiding KKR to a title last season, Iyer is expected to lead the Punjab Kings to success after years of underperformance. The squad is strengthened with talented all-rounders like Marco Jansen, Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, and Omarzai.
