The Pakistan Cricket board has already paid PKR50 million to Punjab government for expenses on food. PSL 2023: Rawalpindi & Lahore Legs to go ahead as scheduled

The interim Government of Punjab has decided to be flexible on lights, security and other expenses. Sixty percent of the bill payment will be borne by the Punjab government while forty percent will be borne by the PCB. In this matter, the PCB and interim government representatives will settle the matter today.

The report further states that during the meeting between the two parties on Friday, PCB had flatly refused to pay the bills of PKR450 million for security, lights, and other expenses handed over by the government.

A PCB official argued that the financial burden of the security charges would be too great given that the government has previously covered the security costs for staging cricket in the province.

There is a general understanding that the franchise owners would also be expected to contribute financially if the PCB were obliged to pay that amount. In that case, moving the entire tournament to Karachi would be less expensive for the parties involved.

Would PCB have benefitted from shifting of venues?

While the shifting of the venues would have helped PCB reduce the cost of organizing the tournament, the participating franchises would have been unhappy.  Apart from the franchises, the fans in Lahore and Rawalpindi would have been disappointed as well to miss out on the action.

PSL 2023 matches in Lahore will begin from February 26. The Gaddafi Stadium is also scheduled to host the Qualifier, the Eliminators and the final. Rawalpindi will host games from March 1 to March 12.
