LAQ beat ISL: Shadab Khan, W Maqsood take four-fers as Lahore Qalandars thump Islamabad United by 8 runs

“He is someone who is more focused on team’s success than individuals. Babar is up there with the very best. He is definitely the best who plays conventional shots and shots that you will see normally in Test match cricket, ODI cricket,” he said.

“What I love about Babar is that you don’t see what he’s doing to you, he doesn’t knock you out. He tends to be like a Muhammad Ali, when he boxes, he jabs and he hurts you. He is an individual that just has too much time to play, and it’s a joy,” Richards added.

Babar Azam is currently five-highest run-getter in Pakistan Super League with 186 runs from 4 inns at 62.00.

He would now look to become the World No.1 Test batsman after ODIs & T20Is. He is currently placed ninth in the list with 750 rating points.

He had won the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year Award in January, beating off competition from Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, South Africa batter Janneman Malan and Ireland opener Paul Stirling.

He finished 2021 with 405 runs that came at an average of 67.50.

Pakistan will next lock horns against Australia in a three-match Test series, beginning March 4 in Rawalpindi.

“I think I said then that for this guy, the sky is the limit. It’s only a matter of time I felt before he was going to be either the No.1-ranked Test batter in the world or certainly challenging for it,” Ricky Ponting said ahead of Australia Tour of Pakistan.
