Nawaz is a 23-year-old opening batter who plies his trade for Northern in the domestic circuit. He has played 19 T20 matches, in which he has accumulated 342 runs at an average of 19 and a strike rate of 126.19.

The youngster will have big boots to fill, for Hales was one of Islamabad’s best performers in the ongoing season. The Englishman is still the leading run-scorer of the team, having scored 255 runs with the help of a couple of half-centuries.

Despite having to deal with a long list of absentees, the two-time champions have done a fairly decent job thus far in this competition. They have won four of their seven matches and are occupying third place in the standings.

PSL 2022: Many foreign players are leaving the tournament midway
Hales is the latest entry on a long list of players who have left the competition abruptly owing to personal reasons. His Nottinghamshire teammate Ben Duckett, who was playing for Quetta Gladiators, has also left the competition. The likes of Saqib Mahmood, Paul Stirling and Rahmanullah Gurbaz have also left for national commitments.
