PSL 2022 draft: The PCB has decided the HBL PSL Draft 2022 will be held at the High-Performance Centre in Lahore on Sunday, 12 December, with the event to kick-off at 3 pm local time. Follow PSL 2022 Draft Live Update on InsideSport.IN.

According to PSL’s official website, “Each side will come to the draft with a maximum of eight-player retentions from the last event. Following the finalization of player categories, the transfer and retention window is now officially open and will close on 10 December.”

In the Platinum Category, Lahore Qalandars will have the first pick, followed by Multan Sultans, Karachi Kings, Islamabad United, Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators. Lahore Qalandars will have the first pick in the Diamond Category, followed by Peshawar Zalmi, Islamabad United, Quetta Gladiators, Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans.

Lahore Qalandars will have the first pick in the Gold Category, Peshawar Zalmi will have the first pick in the Silver Category, Lahore Qalandars will have the first pick in Emerging Category and Quetta Gladiators will have the first pick in Supplementary Category.

Local players’ category renewals

The PCB, following a review and assessment process, has updated local players’ categories.

In the biggest moves, Pakistan wicketkeeper/batter and Multan Sultan’s captain Mohammad Rizwan (previously Silver), Asif Ali of Islamabad United (previously Gold) and Lahore Qalandars’ Haris Rauf (previously Diamond) have been placed in Platinum Category.

Multan Sultans’ Sohaib Maqsood, who was Player of HBL PSL 6, and Haider Ali of Peshawar Zalmi have moved up from Silver and Gold Categories to Diamond Category, respectively.

The players have been divided into six categories – Platinum, Diamond, Gold, Silver, Emerging and Supplementary.

  • Platinum: US$130,000-US$170,000
  • Diamond: US$60,000-US$85,000
  • Gold: US$40,000-US$50,000
  • Silver: US$15,000-US$25,000
  • Emerging: US$7,500
  • Supplementary: US$50,000

The seventh edition of Pakistan’s T20 league will kick off in the fourth week of January next year. While the first phase of the tournament will be taking place in Karachi, the second leg of the tournament will be staged in Lahore.

Before the draft, all PSL teams were allowed to retain a maximum of 8 players, while further additions could be made from the PSL 2022 draft. Each team can have up to 18 players in their squads, meaning more than 60 players will be sold on Sunday.

Draft picks order

  • Lahore Qalandars will have the first pick in the Gold Category,
  • Peshawar Zalmi will have the first pick in the Silver Category,
  • Lahore Qalandars will have the first pick in Emerging Category and
  • Quetta Gladiators will have the first pick in Supplementary Category.

PSL 2022 Trade News and Players Details

  1. Shahid Afridi and James Vince have been traded by Multan Sultans to Quetta Gladiators in exchange for a Diamond and Silver pick in the upcoming PSL draft.

 

2. In another deal, Gladiators traded wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan to Islamabad United and have received Iftikhar Ahmed’s services instead.

3.Iftikhar Ahmad moved to Quetta Gladiators, while Azam Khan heads to Islamabad United

The 6-team tournament has seen Islamabad United win the title on two occasions, the most by any side. With 2,070 runs Babar Azam has been the most successful batter in the history of the league. Peshawar Zalmi pacer Wahab Riaz have picked 94 wickets and has been the most successful bowler in the history of this league. He is the leading wicket-taker in the history of PSL as of now.
