First Innings : PP Shaw b Starc 0 (2b 0x4 0x6)

Second Innings : PP Shaw b Cummins 4 (15m 4b 0x4 0x6) SR: 100

Shaw has been preffered over the likes of Shubman Gill and KL Rahul, but the Mumbai Southpaw failed again. But such precarious has been his form that even Jasprit Bumrah who walked in as nightwatchman in his place has surived more balls than what Shaw could manage in both innings combine.

Prithvi Shaw’s precarious form : Gavaskar and Border had pointed out glaring mistakes in Shaw’s batting style

Many legends included Sunil Gavaskar and Allan Border had advised Indian team management to drop Shaw from the team but Virat Kohli decided to give long rope to Shaw. Shaw has coped a fair share bit of criticism from greats for playing too many shots in Test cricket.

But Virat Kohli still decided to back him. The decision has already started proving costly for India.

On Wednesday, skipper Kohli had addressed a press conference where he talked about Prithvi Shaw and said: “Prithvi has performed at the Test level but he would be playing in Australia for the first time. I think it is very exciting to see his progress as well”.

Contrary to everyone’s opinion Kohli backed Shaw – but with the kind of performance he has given in the first test, without doubt he is all set to be dropped for the next match.
