Prithvi Shaw had been omitted from Mumbai’s squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2024-25. The swashbuckling opener got many starts in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024-25 but failed to get a half-century in nine innings. This also included a 49-run knock in the final against Madhya Pradesh, which helped Mumbai lift their second SMAT title at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on December 15.
Prithvi Shaw dropped from Mumbai’s VHT squad
His form is an issue, but what’s interesting is his relationship with Shreyas Iyer. After winning the SMAT title, the Mumbai captain claimed that Prithvi is one of the best talents in the nation, but his work ethic and fitness are a concern. He added that the opener has conveyed the message, but no one can babysit him. Two days later, Prithvi dropped from Mumbai’s VHT squad.

No Ajinkya Rahane, Suryakumar Yadav & Shivam Dube in
Apart from Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane is also one of the notable exclusions from Mumbai’s squad. The former captain was in form, scoring the most runs in SMAT and even bagging the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award. Given his age, the Mumbai Cricket Association may have decided to try bringing in youngsters. Shreyas Iyer will continue leading the side, and other top stars like Shivam Dube, Shardul Thakur, and Suryakumar Yadav are also on the team.
