Prithvi Shaw Case: Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw’s brawl episode last Wednesday against social media influencer Sapna Gill has a major development. The Oshiwara Police had arrested Sapna Gill and booked seven others for allegedly intimidating Shaw by attacking his car and trying to defame him with a false case. Responding to the allegations, Gill has told the Andheri Court that she never knew him, nor did she ask Shaw for a selfie, as reported by news agencies ANI and PTI. The social media influencer was produced before the Andheri court on Friday, and was later sent into a three day judicial custody till February 20.
The influencer has also been alleged of blackmailing Prithvi Shaw, to which her lawyer defended by saying that Shaw is a regular alcoholic and has been banned by the BCCI in the past.
“Sapna didn’t say anything like give ₹50,000 and end the case. There is no proof of this. Sapna is an influencer, after 15 hours Prithvi Shaw gets the complaint done through his friend in the police… why it was not done on the same day?” ANI quoted the lawyer a saying in the court.
Sapna Gill later added that the police asked her and her friends to end the matter then and there. However the influencer revealed that she had idea that Prithvi Shaw is an Indian cricketer but denied asking him for a selfie.
“I didn’t know he is a cricketer. We were only two and Prithvi shaw was with his eight friends. It’s all wrong that they had food in the hotel, we were partying in the club, and he was drunk. The police asked us to end the matter,” Gill claimed.
Prithvi Shaw assault details
Shaw was allegedly manhandled and his car was attacked with a baseball bat outside a hotel in Mumbai’s Santacruz neighborhood in the early hours of Wednesday, following an argument with Gill and her friend Shobit Thakur after the batman refused to take any more selfies with the influencer.
Sapna Gill’s lawyer denied all the allegations made by the Indian cricketer.
“Today, we put our stand in the court that the allegations levelled by Prithvi Shaw are all wrong. In the next hearing, we will demand judicial custody of Sapna and as soon as the court grants it, we will appeal for bail, police have added Section 387,” he said.
Thakur and others are still missing; two of the accused, who allegedly chased the cricketer’s car as he drove to Oshiwara police station after the incident, were arrested on Friday, according to an official.
On Thursday, Oshiwara Police registered a case against Gill, her friend Thakur, and six others under Indian Penal Code sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 148 (rioting), 384 (extortion), and 506 (criminal conspiracy) (criminal intimidation).
