These days, talented Mumbai batsman Prithvi Shaw has been under severe criticism for not being bagged by any team at IPL 2025 Auction, and for his conduct off the field. That has led to trolling and even comparisons with ex-India batter Vinod Kambi, who has been much in news, due to his ill-health.
Prithvi Shaw on Comeback Trail in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy
To make matters worse, Prithvi Shaw was even dropped from the Mumbai Ranji squad, during the third round in October. But then, it seems like, the 25-year-old is on a road to redemption of sorts. He was picked for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and has at least, come up with “decent performances”.
Of course, one cannot compare Prithvi’s journey in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024, to that of Ajinkya Rahane and Shreyas Iyer, but it is certainly a start for him. Just for the record, Rahane has been in sublime form, and scored 432 runs in eight matches, at a strike rate of 169. an average of 61, and with five fifties. On the other hand, Shreyas has been equally good, scoring 329 in as matches — with a strike rate of 189, and average of 54.
No Match to Ajinkya Rahane & Shreyas Iyer
In comparison, Prithvi has only scored 187 runs in 8 matches, with a best of 49 — but is Mumbai’s third-highest run-getter in this year’s SMAT. To his name he has two ducks, but then not more should be expected from “down-on-confidence” player. The next best for Mumbai has been Shivam Dube, who has scored 142 runs.
To put things further into perspective, he has returned with scores of 33, 0, 23, 40, 0, 34, 49 and 8, with the final still remaining. What would further make amends to his campaign is, if Prithvi can get to a quickfire 50 or even a 100, that would only make his case better. That said, he is nowhere near the national reckoning, but things can change rather rapidly for him.
