‘Prince’ Shubman Gill outshines ‘King’ Virat Kohli in Ahmedabad, slams 7th ODI century

Shubman Gill missed out on scoring his 7th century in the last two matches, getting dismissed for 87 and 60 in the first and second England ODIs, respectively.

Shubman Gill has slammed his 7th ODI century. In his 50th innings in 50-over cricket, the India cricket team vice-captain, Gill, has smashed another hundred. The opener’s average has now gone over 60 in ODIs once again. This knock isn’t out of nowhere either. His last two innings have been incredible as well, but he got to triple digits.

Shubman Gill finally gets into triple digits

At his Indian Premier League (IPL) home, the Narendra Modi Stadium, Gill finally got his 7th hundred. He hadn’t hit a hundred in his last 14 innings but has managed to hit 5 fifties in the same period. His ODI form wasn’t a question, but a poor Border-Gavaskar Trophy was something that people constantly talked about.

We have often seen formats getting mixed and players getting dropped in one format because of failure in another. Gill has ensured that he doesn’t fall victim to such.

Gill ready to take over from Virat Kohli

Long been seen as a successor to Virat Kohli, Gill has shown that he can take over the ‘King’ mantle. The ‘Prince’ is ready, perhaps more than ever before now. He might as well show that in the ICC Champions Trophy. Like Kohli did in his prime, Gill has been toppling records as well.

He has become the fastest to score 2,500 runs in ODIs (50 innings), breaking Hashim Amla’s record (51 innings). He became the first Indian batter to score a hundred in his 50th innings and took the fewest number of innings to score 7 ODI hundreds. He’s also the fastest to 2,000 ODI runs and the second quickest to hit 1,000 runs in 50-over cricket. If the number of ODIs being played in a year hadn’t been decreased, we don’t know how many records he could have broken.
