Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian Men’s Cricket team, led by Rohit Sharma, for their triumphant win in the T20 World Cup. India clinched their second T20 World Cup title, defeating South Africa by seven runs in Bridgetown, Barbados. This victory ended their 11-year drought for an international trophy, the last being the Champions Trophy in 2013. The team previously won the T20 World Cup in 2007 under MS Dhoni’s leadership.

Virat Kohli comes to India’s rescue in T20 World Cup 2024 Final

Virat Kohli played a pivotal role, scoring a crucial 76 off 59 balls with six fours and two sixes, leading India to a competitive 176 for seven. Kohli’s fifty, his first of the tournament, was instrumental after India’s top-order collapse, which saw Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and Suryakumar Yadav dismissed early, leaving India at a precarious 34 for three.

Kohli found support in Axar Patel, who scored a valuable 47 off 31 balls. Their 72-run partnership for the fourth wicket steadied the innings. After Axar’s run-out, Shivam Dube provided a late boost with his 27 off 16 balls.

The Indian bowlers, particularly Arshdeep Singh (2/20) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/18), maintained the pressure, restricting South Africa to 169 for eight. Heinrich Klaasen’s quickfire 52 off 27 balls threatened to turn the tide, but Hardik Pandya’s crucial wicket of Klaasen sealed the victory.
