The reigning champions are ready to defend their crown! The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have began their preparations for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, with a pre-season camp in Mumbai. Last year, KKR clinched their third IPL title, beating the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets. However, they don’t have the title-winning captain this time as KKR let go Shreyas Iyer before the IPL 2025 mega auction. Quite fascinatingly, KKR haven’t announced their captain for IPL 2025 but Venkatesh Iyer’s name is being reportedly discussed within the franchise.
KKR training camp for IPL 2025
On February 22, the official social media revealed the snapshots of their training, where the likes of Venkatesh Iyer, Manish Pandey, Mayank Markande, Anukul Roy, Vaibhav Arora and Ramandeep Singh were present. For the 18th season, they have started a week-long training. The camp, running from February 21-28, brings together 9 domestic players, including Venkatesh Iyer and Rinku Singh, for comprehensive training and team bonding activities. The camp aims to build early momentum ahead of the season, with a focus on strength and conditioning, skill training, and match simulation exercises.
“The players who are not currently involved in domestic cricket are available and have joined us for this short pre-season camp. This is a normal routine for us every season. We will also have a camp in Kolkata from March 12 onwards, where we will have the international players available post the ICC Champions Trophy. Our real preparation will start when the whole squad assembles, but this camp will help us get into a rhythm. We have our core group intact which gives us confidence, and I am sure that with the players we have brought in (at the Auction), our combinations will be very strong like last season,” cited head coach Chandrakant Pandit.
