Karnataka have received reinforcements in the form of Prasidh Krishna and Devdutt Padikkal for Vijay Hazare Trophy knockout matches. The duo were a part of IND vs AUS Test series in Down Under and played one match each in the tour. The duo will now return to the domestic side as Karnataka hunt for another trophy. Mayank Agarwal’s Karnataka will take on Krunal Pandya’s Baroda on January 11 in the quarter-final of the tournament.
Prasidh Krishna, Devdutt Padikkal boost for Karnataka
Both Krishna and Padikkal were regulars for Karnataka in domestic tourneys before receiving call-ups for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. While Padikkal featured in the 1st Test in the absence of Shubman Gill, Krishna finally got an opportunity in the 5th Test after warming the bench until then. Karnataka have been prolific so far in VHT, with skipper Mayank Agarwal leading from the front with four centuries and five back-to-back fifty plus scores.

Karnataka topped Group C in the standings in the group stage of VHT. Mayank Agarwal and co picked up 6 wins from 7 matches, finishing with 24 points to their name. Their only loss came against Hyderabad on January 3 as the succumbed to a three-wicket defeat. Currently, Padikkal holds the record for scoring the most runs for Karnataka in a tournament after amassing 737 runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2020-21., averaging 140.47. The second best is none other than captain Mayank, who scored 723 runs in the List A tournament in 2018-19.
Prasidh had a terrific couple of years in 2017-18 and 2018-19 when he finished with 17 wickets on both occasions in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The addition of the duo to the squad will surely boost Karnataka’s chances in the knockouts.
