Pragyan Ojha set to leave IPL GC, new WPL GC to be formed at BCCI AGM on Monday

Pragyan Ojha set to leave IPL GC, new WPL GC to be formed at BCCI AGM on Monday

At the BCCI AGM on Monday, two new members will be inducted into IPL GC while a separate WPL Governing Council is likely to be formed.

Time is up for Pragyan Ojha as the players’ representative in IPL Governing Council. The former left-arm spinner is set to leave IPL GC with a new players’ representative set to be added at the BCCI AGM in Goa on Monday. Furthermore, another important matter will be induction of new WPL governing council. In the inaugural season, IPL GC managed WPL. But there will be a separate body from WPL 2024 onwards.

As per a Cricbuzz report, Pragyan Ojha who has served on council for the last three years, will step down on his own. While the BCCI AGM has not addressed the issue directly, it has listed the matter as “Induction of 1 (one) representative of the Indian Cricketers’ Association in the Governing Council of the IPL.”

IPL Governing Council members:

  • Arun Singh Dhumal, Chairman
  • Jay Shah, Honorary Secretary, BCCI, Member
  • Ashish Shelar, Honorary Treasurer, BCCI, Member
  • Avishek Dalmiya, Member
  • Pragyan Ojha, Member (ICA representative)
  • CM Sane, CAG Nominee, Member

BCCI AGM has listed “Election and induction of 2 (two) representatives of the General Body in the Governing Council of the IPL.” But it is understood that Arun Dhumal as well as Abhishek Dalmiya will continue. They have already filed nominations as of Friday. Dhumal is the current chairman on the IPL GC and will continue. The elections for the two posts will be held during BCCI AGM on Monday.

New WPL Governing Council

With the increasing responsibilities of the IPL GC members, there will be a separate governing council for the Women’s Premier League. While the matter has not been listed on the agenda, it is likely that, during the BCCI AGM, a formal nod will be given to WPL GC.

Apart from, IPL GC and WPL GC, some of the other decisions include the appointment of women’s team coach. It is likely that the new coach will be appointed by the end of the year.

BCCI AGM Agenda

  • Appointment of ombudsman and ethics officer.
  • Finalising preparations for World Cup
  • Appointment of BCCI representative at the ICC
  • Appointment of Cricket Committee, Standing Committees, and Umpires Committee.
  • Induction of two new members in IPL GC
