Poor turnout in Multan forces PCB to announce free entry for fans on Day 3 & 4 of PAK vs ENG 1st Test

The PCB has decided to allow free entry for fans on Days 3 and 4 of the PAK vs ENG 1st Test in Multan after poor turnout of fans on Day 2

The Multan Cricket stadium hardly saw any fanfare for the home side as stands remained empty largely on Day 2 of PAK vs ENG 1st Test. In a desperate attempt to boost the audience, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced free entry for fans on Days 3 and 4 of the match. The ‘offer’ applies to first-class and general enclosures at the venue.

Former England cricketer Michael Atherton did not hold back as he delivered a scathing verdict on the poor turnout. During commentary, he remarked that there were more security personnel at the venue than fans. Both teams weathered the hot conditions that was coupled with lack of fanfare or activity in the stands. PCB took to social media platforms to announce its decision to give free entry to spectators. In its effort to fill in the stadium, the PCB had announced free entry for fans on the opening day of the contest as well.

Pakistan completed their 1st innings after batting for nearly two full days. The contest on a very flat Multan pitch saw the batters being heavily favoured while the bowlers borne the brunt of the dead rubber track. Three Pakistan batters went on to score centuries, propelling the hosts to a mammoth 556-run 1st innings total before England managed to bowl them out.

In response, England got off the a fiery started and ended Day 2 on 96/1, managing to torment the Pakistan bowlers. Zak Crawley (64) and Joe Root (32) will resume play for England on Day 3 as they will eye to cut down Pakistan’s 460-run lead.
