Babar Azam’s Pakistan team faces treason charges for poor performance in T20 World Cup: Report

Pakistan qualification scenario: After three matches, the chances of Pakistan cricket team making it to T20 World Cup Super 8 is bleak.

Cricket in Pakistan is an emotion, and when the Pakistani cricket team doesn’t do well, the fans somehow find ways to get one up on the players, for breaking their hearts. In the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, the Babar Azam & Co. have been poor so far, having won only against Canada, and registering losses against India and USA. That also puts their campaign in jeopardy, as they might not be able to make it to Super 8.

Pakistan Cricket Team & Babar Azam in Trouble

Now a disgruntled lawyer fan in Pakistan’s Gujranwala has filed a treason petition against the Pakistan cricket team, as per a report in Arab News, reported by local media. “The petitioner expressed deep concern over the disappointing performance of the national cricket team, calling it a waste of money and a betrayal of the nation’s trust,” Samaa TV said.

“The petition accuses the team of putting at stake millions of rupees and the integrity of the nation, alleging that the players and team management prioritized financial gain over the country’s honor.”

“Furthermore, the petition highlights the severe hurt caused to the sentiments of the people during matches against America and India, citing these performances as particularly egregious,” it added. “It calls for a ban on the team until a thorough inquiry is conducted by the interior secretary and a comprehensive report is completed.”

Meanwhile, the court has also responded to the petition and asked for a report from the police on registration of the case, and directed to file by June 21.

Pakistan Qualification Scenario

As the caravan for Group A moves to Lauderhill Florida, Pakistan has to win their one remaining match vs Ireland. If they fail, they don’t go through to Super 8. They also need Ireland to win vs USA. Plus, they have to battle the inclement weather too now, as flood emergency has been issued in Miami.
