Playing under MS Dhoni is ‘the best feeling,’ reveals CSK pacer Simarjeet Singh

Simarjeet Singh is having a great a superb DPL T20 campaign, where he has bagged 15 wickets at an immaculate bowling strike rate of 13.00.

The cricketing world often speaks of the aura that surrounds certain players. MS Dhoni, the former Indian captain and current Chennai Super Kings (CSK) enigma, is undoubtedly one such figure. His influence extends far beyond the boundaries, and for young pacer Simarjeet Singh, sharing dressing room with Dhoni is akin to witnessing your dreams come true in reality.

Simarjeet & his administration for MS Dhoni

Simarjeet Singh was handed his IPL debut at CSK in the 2022 season and was under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Although he didn’t have a breakout season, it showed his raw talent. Four wickets in six games but at an immaculate economy rate of 7.67. Unfortunately for him, injuries plagued him, forcing Simarjeet to miss the entire 2023 season. However, he came strong and featured for four more games earlier this year at IPL 2024.

Having MS Dhoni’s arms around your shoulder should feel nothing less than outlandish and the Delhi pacer didn’t shy when he was asked about MS Dhoni. “It was a dream… not even a dream but more than that to play under him. The best [feeling] I have had in my career,” Simarjeet Singh said to Sportskeeda.

Simarjeet Singh at DPL!

The 26-year-old has been the wrecker-in-chief in the ongoing Delhi Premier League (DPL) T20. Representing the East Delhi Riders, Simarjeet has been a dangerous bowling threat, bagging 15 scalps. It has not been just about bagging those wickets, but how Simarjeet has been different from others. In fact, the top five fastest deliveries in the league have all been released from his right arm, almost touching the 150-kmph mark often. He has even varied his lengths quite masterfully for East Delhi Riders, with whom he wishes to clinch the inaugural DPL T20 edition tonight!
